COMMUNITY BASED SERVICE DEPARTMENT

 

 Head of department community based services.

The department has got three stuff who all handle community based issues that is to say.

  1. Senior community development officer
  2. Assistant Community Development Officer
  3. Assistant Labour officer.

The department has got a number of roles which include the following

  • Coordinating the effective delivery of gender culture and community based services in the urban council
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effective implementation of national and local laws and policies on gender, labour and social development.
  • Ensuring that gender is mainstreamed in all government programmed
  • Coordinating the SAGE programme
  • Coordinating Youth Lively hood Programme
  • Coordinating Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme
  • Child protection issues
  • Handling Gender Based Violence related issues
  • Supervising ,conducting and monitoring of NGOs and CBOs in the town council
  • Ensuring a gender responsive approach in all government programmes running in the town council
  • Mobilizing communities for development. This also includes different categories of vulnerable groups such as the elderly, OVC, Youths Women and persons with disabilities(PWD).
  • Coordinating of functional adult literacy.

ACHIEVEMENTS

The department implements various government programmes and some of the achievement are seen as below.

Youth lively hood program

 

Youth livelihood programme started in 2014 where youth were given funds in groups of 10-15 members.

The number of youth groups that have benefited from this programme since 2014 to date are 24

UWEP

The above programme started in 2015 where women received funds in groups of 10-15 members to implement various projects.

The number of women groups that have benefited since 2015 to date are 16

SAGE

Senior assistance grant for empowerment is benefiting the senior citizens and started in 2016 .The number of elderly persons that have benefited from these funds include since 2016 to date are 110

 

GBV

Gender Based violence in the Town council is still high. It has however reduced since the involvement of community based.
